New Study Abroad Award Gives Flight to Student’s International Teaching Career Goals
Brianna Barbarise’s upcoming two-week study abroad experience is a story of firsts. The first in her family to attend a four-year college, the Georgian Court senior, a double major in education and psychology, will travel internationally for the first time to Ecuador in January. Brianna’s trip is possible because of a Georgian Court award, the Sister Mary Catharine Sullivan Award for Global Education.
Patent-Awarded Professor Engages a “Full Circle of Knowledge” to Combat Climate Change
Georgian Court University chemistry professor Prasad Lakkaraju, Ph.D. received his fourth patent this fall, but he’s quick to note it’s not the work of one inventor, or even the three whose names appear on U.S. Patent 11,131,028 B2. “Scientific research these days is highly collaborative, because you need people who are specialists in different areas,” he said.
Celebrating First-Gen Students at GCU
Being a first-generation college student is a huge milestone not just for students, but also for their families, according to several speakers who recently participated in Georgian Court’s celebration of first-generation students. Not every journey is alike, they said, but they all share in some things in common: a high value in education, an understanding of its overall benefits, and charting new territory—a move that takes both being bold and being brave.
GCU’s Positivity and Diversity Shine in NSSE Survey Results, With More to Come
Georgian Court University plans to apply results from the 2021 National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) to further cultivate a positive campus environment where everyone feels they belong and has ample opportunities for diversity in the classroom and student life.
