Georgian Court University has been recognized for its commitment to high-impact learning practices and for its reputation as a leading Catholic institution, according to the organizers of Colleges of Distinction.

This is the third year GCU has proven itself worthy of the accolade, which focuses on schools that deliver a modern, student-centered approach to teaching. The honor reflects GCU’s unique learning environment and vibrant programs that engage students through service learning, global education, intensive writing courses, undergraduate research, capstone projects, and internships.

“We are absolutely thrilled to recognize Georgian Court as a College of Distinction for its effective dedication to student success,” said Tyson Schritter, chief operating officer for Colleges of Distinction. “Colleges of Distinction is so impressed with GCU’s curriculum, which is enriched with the kind of high-impact educational practices that are most crucial for student development. Such innovative engagement is preparing the next generation of young adults to thrive after college.”

Student Satisfaction a Clear Distinction

Results from GCU’s 2018 Student Satisfaction Inventory survey reinforce the honor. Students at the university found the content in the major courses to be valuable and thought their academic majors could be clearly applied to their career goals. They also gave GCU high marks for faculty who consistently make themselves available outside of class time.

Colleges of Distinction’s selection process consists of a review of each institution’s freshman experience and retention efforts alongside its general education programs, alumni success, strategic plan, student satisfaction, and more. Schools are accepted on the basis that they adhere to four distinctions, characterized by “Engaged Students, Great Teaching, Vibrant Community, and Successful Outcomes.”

In addition to honoring the university overall, the program also recognized GCU as a Catholic College of Distinction and for its programs in business, nursing, and education.

“We seek out the schools that are wholly focused on the student experience, constantly working to produce graduates who are prepared for a rapidly changing global society. Georgian Court stands out in the way it strives to help its students to learn, grow, and succeed,” said Mr. Schritter.
